THE INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE "CHURCH AGAINST XENOPHOBIA AND DISCRIMINATION" HAS SENT INFORMATION ON VIOLATIONS OF THE RIGHTS OF THE UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH TO THE BUNDESTAG'S COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND HUMANITARIAN POLICY

The International Human Rights Alliance "Church Against Xenophobia and Discrimination" has sent comments to the Bundestag Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Policy (Ausschuss für Menschenrechte und humanitäre Hilfe) on the Third Report of the German Federal Government on the World Situation of Freedom of Religion or Belief.

Information materials on the situation of religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church were submitted to the Committee before the parliamentary hearings scheduled for 24 April 2024. In addition to written testimonies from the dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the appeal was accompanied by expert opinions on the draft law "On the Prohibition of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church" prepared by the international law firm Amsterdam & Partners, as well as a "White Book" of reports of violations of the rights of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The written appeal was signed on behalf of the Alliance by Metropolitan Theodosius (Snigirev) of Cherkasy and Kaniv of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Timothy (Margaritis) of Vostra, Exarch of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher on the island of Cyprus of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Ioanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Theodosius (Hanna) of Sevastopol of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, and other members of the Alliance.

This step is another action to inform the international community, which positions itself as defenders of religious freedom, about the real situation of the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The Alliance members will continue further dialogue with members of the Bundestag and national parliaments of other countries to find effective ways to protect religious freedom in Ukraine and around the world.
